Snowout?

Well, that was fun. an excuse to not study for 12 minutes as a power outage probably related to the snowstorm outside took down the campus and the surrounding St. John’s area (maybe the entire city) electricity supply. Surprisingly, either the campus has no emergency generators, or they don’t cover the residences.

Got four finals coming up, respectively, Math, Political Science, Forensic Psychology and Sociology. Hopefully they will pass by quickly and that I make an actual effort to study for them…

Christmas is also coming up in about a month…but that’s for another post!

I got this off a friend’s blog and found it really interesting. The things we wish we could say to our parents, but never could.

21 Memos From Your Child

1. Don’t spoil me. i know quite well that i ought not to have all that i ask for. I’m only testing you.
2. Don’t be afraid to be firm with me. I prefer it, it makes me feel more secure.
3. Don’t let me form bad habits. I have to rely on you to detect them in the early stages.
4. Don’t make me feel smaller than i am. It only makes me behave stupidly “big”.
5. Don’t correct me in front of people if you can help it. I’ll take much more notice if you talk quietly with me in private.
6. Don’t make me feel my mistakes are sins. It upsets my sense of values.
7. Don’t protect me from consequences. I sometimes need to learn the painful way.
8. Don’t be too upset when i say, “I hate you.” It isn’t you i hate but your power to thwart me.
9. Don’t take too much notice of my small ailments. Sometimes they get me the attention i need.
10. Don’t nag. If you do, i shall have to protect myself by appearing deaf.
11. Don’t forget that i cannot explain myself as well as i should like. This is why I’m not always very accurate.
12. Don’t make rash promises. Remember that i feel badly let down when promises are broken.
13. Don’t tax my honesty too much. I am easily frightened into telling lies.
14. Don’t be inconsistent. That completely confuses me and makes me lose faith in you.
15. Don’t tell me my fears are silly. They are terribly real, and you can do much to reassure me if you try to understand.
16. Don’t put me off when i ask questions. If you do, you will find that i stop asking and seek my information elsewhere.
17. Don’t ever suggest that you are perfect or infallible. It gives me too great a shock.
18. Don’t ever think it is beneath your dignity to apologize to me. An honest apology makes me feel surprisingly warm toward you.
19. Don’t forget how quickly i am growing up. It must be very difficult to keep pace with me, but please try to.
20. Don’t forget i love experimenting. I couldn’t get on without it, so please put up with it.
21. Don’t forget that i can’t thrive without lots of understanding love, but i don’t need to tell you, do i?

There’s a child within everyone of us therefore it applies to everyone towards everyone.

A Trip Around The Sun

If somebody asked me how it felt to be a year older, I would pause, think about it, and say that it didn’t feel any different.

Went to see the Rant Like Rick final auditions in the University Center today, arrived at about 1:15, but they were already wrapping up and announcing the winners, too bad.

On Blogging and News…

In retrospect, I suppose it seems a little spooky, having a non-anonymous blog, where everything you write can be traced back to you. It kind of limits your ‘freedom of expression’. My last few blogs have been limited to outside audiences (mainly anonymous), and another one for family and friends. So this is a rather new experience for me. Accountability results in self-imposed limits on expression; you can hardly make not-so-flattering comments about a certain incident (not that I have any), with the possibility that those involved may read it.

It is like revealing your personal journal to the world, and thus, we try and be as impersonal as possible. So, onwards to this week’s little bundle of aggregated news for your viewing pleasure.

‘I love MUNDays” session of events are coming up (Oct 23-27), and we’ll be sure to see lots of the various events around campus.

Memorial’s President, Dr. Axel Meisen is stepping down from Presidency to take up post as the chair of foresight with the Alberta Research Council, and the University is urged, once again, to reduce waste.

From the campus paper, The Muse, SHS Chief Physician Dr. Norman Lee has been strongly recommending the addition of a psychiatrist to the medical services the University provides.

Halloween is coming up, and we see cool events such as the Haunted Hike and the Harbor Haunt. Should be an interesting time to be had by all. And speaking of Haunts, while checking the website for the Harbor Haunt, they apparently thought it was spooky to play a scary sound. Unfortunately for me, my headphones were connected and turned to near-max from where I was using the speakers. My poor ears may never recover…much less my nerves.
